Case study two

You are working in the Emergency Department (ED). A 48-year-old woman has been admitted complaining of chest pain. She tells you that she has also been experiencing rapid palpitation for approximately 12 hours.

You follow the ABCDE (Airway, Breathing, Circulation, Disability, Exposure) approach and note the following:

A : Clear

B : Spontaneous breathing, rate 16 min-1

C: P 180 min-1, BP 110/90 mmHg, CRT < 2 s

D : Alert, glucose 5.5 mmol l-1

E : Nil of note

The patient is being monitored and you decide that she is not displaying adverse features.
